Wee-Bots 2 – Pioneers and Explorers

Grade 2-3

Pioneers

Children will investigate compound simple machines that use their energy. They will be estimating, predicting and problem solving more complicated lego models than in Wee-Bots 1, to investigate the relationships of more than one simple machine on a model and how they can effect the outcome of its movement.

  • For children who are in grade 2 or3  and have taken our  WeeBots 1
  • Students will have a partner for activities and are expected to co-operate and share well
  • Max. class size of 6

Explorers

Experimenting with motors and battery energy, children will build more advanced lego models to investigate, estimate, predict and problem solve compound simple machines and understand the outcome of movement

  • For children who are in grade 2 or3  and have taken our  WeeBots 2 Pioneers
  • Students will have a partner for activities and are expected to co-operate and share well
  • Max. class size of 6

Wee-Bots 3 – Intro to  Programming

Grade 2-3

Children will be using the Lego Wedo platform from Lego. They will begin the process of undertanding a robot and its construction and design as they program simple robot models that are plugged into a computer. They will be actively involved in creative thinking, problem solving and teamwork skills as well as developing their skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. This is a structured environment and requires children who are motivated to listen and learn on the computer while having the distraction of playing with the lego.

  • Recommended for children who are currently in grade 3
  • Have completed our WeeBots 2 programs
  • Max. class size of 6

Winter Program Offerings

Saturdays 9am-12:15pm
March 25, April 1, 8  (no snow day)

E-Bots Level 1

Introductory Level, Grade 4-9

There is nothing more exciting than a new adventure and that is certainly what a child will feel like they are doing when the world of robotics presents itself. Children will learn what a robot is, how it works, and what sensors are available to make it come to life. Sensors will be explained through analysis, experiment and observation. in an interactive environment. Taking this new found knowledge they will be asked to design and program robots that are “tasked” to produce certain results. Their knowledge of the sensors and how to program them will provide the solution to their design and the task their robot has been given. This will be done working in pairs which will compliment their communication skills and interactive group play.

  • Recommended for ages 9-15
  • Students should are currently in grade 4 and up
  • No previous experience is required
  • Students will have a partner for most activities and are expected to co-operate and share well
  • Max. class size of 10

E-Bots Level 2

Intermediate Level, Grade 4-9

Continuing their robotics journey from level I, children will be all that more encouraged in their adventure as they are able to more freely program and design their robots as harder challenges present themselves. Understanding the sensors, more complicated programming concepts will be explored with more emphasis on problem solving, teamwork and exploration. Level II will complete the foundation of sensors and will lead into level III’s even more complicated programming.

  • Recommended for ages 9-15
  • Students who are currently in grade 4 and up
  • Previous Foundations of Programming Level 1 is needed
  • Students will have a partner for most activities and are expected to co-operate and share well
  • Max. class size of 10

E-Bots Challenge Camp

Advanced Level, Grade 4-9

What do you do after level 1 and 2? You take the challenge! This program gives students the opportunity to take all they have learned from previous levels and apply them to various challenges that are given. This will encourage them to focus through the design principles, construction techniques and to program their own solid, functional robots. Challenges are given that will require problem solving, strategy, and identifying requirements for design, building and programming a robot to the challenges that are given. Competitive play may be utilized so at the end they can measure their own and the team’s success. The challenge camp is a great starter for anyone interested in being on an FLL team.

  • For ages 9-15
  • Students should be currently in grade 4-9
  • Previous foundation of programming level 2 at a minimum
  • Students will have to work on a team and are expected to co-operate, share well and have a good work ethic
  • children should be self-motivated and mature enough to stay focused on their robotic activities as this is not instructional sit-down teaching but children work on their own time schedule to complete the challenges
  • parents should be aware that children may be photographed for youtube videos to show off their challenges, names are never included
  • this is one of the prerequisites for anyone considering an FLL team with E-Bots
  • maximum 10 children
